Guest Preacher: Rick Whitlock from Campus House

What Sort of People?

All of human history is heading toward one moment when Jesus returns, and we stand before him. How should this affect the way that we live? Since we already know the end of our story, how does this shape our priorities, goals, and decisions? Join us for the final sermon in our 2 Peter series as we discover how the future second coming of Jesus shapes the present.

Our Misguided Search for Happiness

Everyone wants to be happy, and we all have an idea of what will satisfy that desire. Usually, we believe that if one thing about our life would change, we would finally be satisfied. It could be a new job, relationship, income, or accomplishment. Something has to finally make us happy, right? In 2 Peter 2:17-22, the Apostle highlights that often, we are looking for happiness in the wrong places. Rather than following our desires, we should actually be growing deeper in a relationship with Jesus. Often, we look for happiness everywhere other than God, but at the end of the day, he's the only source of true happiness.

The Seduction of False Teaching

One of the greatest dangers of false teaching is that it's usually attractive to us for some reason. Maybe it tells us that ultimately we can be in control of our own lives. Maybe it twists the Bible's words to give us license to do whatever we want to do. in 2 Peter, the Apostle is writing to a church struggling with giving in to false teachers. They promised the church that they could live however they wanted because Jesus wouldn't judge them. However, Peter warns the church that Jesus is coming as judge, and the only way to be rescued from the wrath to come is to believe the gospel.

Eyewitnesses of His Majesty

Why do you believe what you believe? We all have moments during our lives when we question our deeply held beliefs. This is particularly true of our spiritual lives. Do we have good reasons for believing the things we profess to believe about God, Jesus, the church, etc.? Check out this sermon from 2 Peter 1:16-21 to discover some of the reasons we can have confidence in what we believe to be true about Jesus.

The Method of Jesus' Mission

Dave Shockey from Campus House was a guest preacher at City of God Church on June 16. He looked at the method of Jesus' mission in Luke 10, and how we can incorporate that same method in our own lives as we seek to live on mission.

Make Every Effort

When we think about our relationship with Jesus, it's easy to focus on what he's saved us from. However, is it possible we're missing what Jesus has saved us for? In this sermon from 2 Peter 1, Pastor Eric shows how God has given us everything necessary in order to become the kind of person God has called us to be. Using the tools that God has given us, how can we experience lasting transformation?

Knowing Jesus

Weakness is the Way

It's natural to want to present ourselves as strong, competent, and like we have it all together. However, is it possible that this desire is keeping us from all that God has for us? Check out this sermon from 2 Corinthians 12 as we discover the role that weakness plays in the Christian life.
