Three ways the Gospel message shapes our lives- The Gospel Saves us, the Gospel Unites us, and the Gospel Frees us.
On the latest episode of "Elder Chat," the City of God Elders ask the question, "Why does Sunday morning matter?" Why is it important for us to regularly gather for worship on Sunday mornings? What is God doing in and through us when we worship with our church family?
In Acts 10, Peter enters the house of Cornelius. While this seems like a small thing, in reality it was a massive shift in Peter’s thinking. For most of us life, Peter had kept his distance from the Gentiles for fear that he might be made unclean. However, God teaches him through a series of visions, "What God has made clean, do not call common.” Is it possible, that out of a similar desire to be holy, we might be keeping the world at arm’s length? What does it look like to pursue holiness but also to engage a world that is far from God? Check out our latest sermon from Acts for more.
As we read through the Gospels and Acts, we encounter a number of stories of people being physically healed. Should the church expect similar miracles to occur in their midst today, and what do these stories have to teach us about our need for spiritual healing? Check out our latest sermon “Hope for Healing” for more.
In Acts 9, we read about one of the most dramatic conversion stories in all. of scripture. Saul, the great persecutor of the church, comes to faith in Christ when he encounters Jesus on the Damascus Road. Many Christians today might feel like their story of coming to faith is much less impressive than Paul's. However, the Bible shows us that any time someone puts their faith in Jesus, it's the result of a miracle that God works in their hearts. Check out "The Miracle of Conversion" for more.
Throughout the book of Acts, God often works in surprising ways. One of the most surprising stories in the book comes in Acts 8. In this story, Philip shares the gospel with someone you would never expect to be interested in Jesus. However, once this man believed Philip's message, it became clear that Jesus was for everyone.
On the latest City of God "Elder Chat," we look back at our favorite moments from 2021 and look ahead to 2022.
Jesus makes clear at the beginning of the book of Acts that he wants his disciples to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Accomplishing this mission will require all Christians to play their part. For some, that will mean taking the gospel all over the world. For others, that will mean making Jesus known at their work, school, neighborhood, or home. Check out our latest sermon for more.
In many ways, the Bible is telling one story. Over and over again throughout its pages, we read about the faithfulness of God. However, this story also includes regular reminders of our unfaithfulness. How can remembering the faithfulness of God help us persevere in the Christian life, and how might our spiritual activity be blinding us to the true condition of our relationship with God? Check out our latest sermon for more.
One of the most beautiful truths of the Christian faith is that when someone puts their faith in Christ, they receive the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit. That means that at that moment, God begins to dwell with that person. But how do we cultivate our personal relationship with Jesus, and what does it mean to abide with him day by day? Check out our latest sermon for more.
